Read the full story »The Great Gatsby, a novel known for unruly display of vulgar richness and fame is less understood to the people and director has therefore taken a different approach to appreciate the work and has come up with his understanding of the novel with great sentiments and positive approach. Gatsby played by Leonardo Di Caprio is one of his best roles and he has portrayed very beautifully the character with full conviction and dedication.

Nick’s ultimate retirement to a mental institution because of failure and hopelessness in love is portrayed brilliantly by the director who seems to be more attached to the idea of filming party scenes than narrating the story on his own. Maguire’s voice over for narrating the theme of the visuals appearing on the screen simply tells the audience the impact of the words used in original novel.
Love between Daisy and Gatsby is one of the most aesthetic elements of the film besides the party scenes that are the director’s original forte. The story line has been picked up frame to frame from the original write-up with only difference being the treatment of the story and its end. These are the two areas that have actually shown the director’s capability to show to the world what Gatsby means to him.
Gatsby who is introduced as a pure inspiring soul finds some moments of solace in the arms of Daisy who he meets at a party. The love between the two seems to be the soul of the film while all other characters just fulfill the requirements of fillers who are required to occupy the screen space for creating the desired impact. Even the much talked about role of a tricky gambler played by Amitabh Bachchan has been edited to the extent that it seems quite out of place in the main plot.
All actors perform beautifully their parts; still the director’s love for the novel looms over the maximum part of the film. This movie is the crazy display of hope, madness and passion and is able to take audience to a feel good journey where every nuance used by the director is shown to confirm the supremacy of hope over all other emotions.
Di Caprio’s performance is a visual treat to his fans. His ability to perform all the emotions in correct flavor keeps him on the center stage for most of the times. He has done fairly well in his role and his being unlucky in love with Daisy is the main driving force propelling the movie to its ultimate fate.
