Review : It’s Complicated
If one is of the view that Meryl Streep sells muffins, then “It’s Complicated” is a completely plausible film. She lives in Santa Barbara and plays the role of owner to a bakery/Restaurant in a wonderful hacienda on a bluff that overlooks the Pacific which is set on grounds approached by an excellent circular drive that is much better than the Oprah’s place that I have seen earlier. As her kitchen tragically has two ovens, Jane hires an architect to give her a new kitchen. Lot of credit should be given to the Sainted Meryl who lives alone and occupies this space as if it is perfect for her. The story turns a twist when one knew that Jake (Alec Baldwin) has married Agness (Lake Bell) 10 years back and has been divorced.

Jane’s children love her, her prospective son-in-law, Harley, adores her, and life would be perfect if it weren’t that her husband Jake left her 10 years ago. You’d think she’d be able to get over the loss of Baldwin in 10 years. A lot of women have. It’s Complicated is written and directed by Nancy Meyers who has earlier directed movies like “Something’s Gotta Give” (2003), “What Women Want” (2000) and “The Holiday” (2006), has gained a good reputation of dealing with romantic movies that are inclined to middle aged people. He has paired Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson, Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt and now Streep Baldwin and Martin favors tush bearing scenes involving his lead pairs. We find here in this movie that Baldwin gets hooked up with Martin via iChat but unfortunately the Camera and Screen sharing options are being enabled.

One can find fun in the way of Harley (John Krasanski) who finds himself in possession of much more information than he desires to have. “The Lady Eve” (1941) had a scene involving a character that sneaks up to peek through a window, loosing his footing and crashing on the ground that was so well picturised in that movie but unfortunately was not as fresh as the earlier one in this movie. Well, it can be funny when a respectable lady gets stoned on pot but will be very difficult for Streep to make it funny for this 10 minute long scene. This movie- “It’s Complicated” is a re-arrangement of the goods in Nancy Meyers bakery where some of them belong to the day old shelf. It’s complicated will be a best choice for its target demographic that includes gal pals thronging to watch movie after their Christmas presentations. May be, there are some who are in no mood of watching “Avatar”.
